Genealogy
I like to research my family history. Here are some highlights:
-
My Great Great Great Grandfather William Gladman was transported to Australia for 7 years for stealing two yards of canvas and a sack. Another convict, my Great Great Great Great Grandfather William Hurst was transported to Australia for horse stealing.
-
My Great Grandfather Edward Alexander Daire (Hilda's dad) was in the British Army and spent six years stationed in India. His son-in-law (my grandfather) George Stanley Wood served in Navy during WWI, and afterwards married Hilda Daire and emigrated from England to Australia in 1921.
-
My wife's Great Great Great Great Grandfather Amos Godsill Norcott was a general at the battle of Waterloo. Amos's son Charles and Clare's Great Great Grandfather was an early settler in Perth, and became the Assistant Superintendent of Native Tribes in 1834.
-
My wife's Great Great Grandfather Joseph Thomas (J.T.) Reilly was a prominent member of the early Western Australian community. He founded the Northam Advertiser and Catholic Record, and authored "Reminiscences of fifty years residence in Western Australia, Perth" published in 1903.
